Transport Information

Flemington’s central location offers all kinds of safe and smooth transport options, to and from the racecourse, and with frequent arrivals and departures.

Transport Options

Allocated Annual Reserved Car Sites and Ranks 1 – 4 sites are to be accessed via Members Drive only.

The member unreserved car park starts from row 15 and is accessible from Flemington Drive only. Traffic management staff will be on hand to direct all unreserved carpark holders during race day. A map denoting the locations and the best way to access the car parks can be found here.

Please note that unreserved car parking is subject to availability. If there are no available parks in the members unreserved car park, members will be guided to the nearest available parking spaces.

Trains will operate between Southern Cross Train Station and Flemington Racecourse on all race days throughout the year, unless otherwise communicated by the Victoria Racing Club or Public Transport Victoria. For further details and to view the train timetable for each race day, please visit our race day pages for the most up to date information.

Trains are the most efficient way to arrive and depart the venue.

Travel time from Flemington to the City is approx. 15 mins and during Melbourne Cup Carnival trains depart Flemington from both platforms at regular intervals throughout the day.

From the corner of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Street catch the No. 57 West Maribyrnong tram to Flemington Drive (stop 30).

Please note, low-floor trams do not run on Route 57 and it is therefore recommended passengers using a mobility aid should catch the train to the racecourse.

Catch Route 472 bus from Williamstown, Footscray or Moonee Ponds to Fisher Parade. Enter Flemington Racecourse via The Elms Gate entrance.

Catch Route 404 bus from Footscray or Moonee Ponds to Smithfield Road. Enter Flemington Racecourse via Stables Drive entrance.

Taxis

Three Taxi Ranks operate throughout Melbourne Cup Carnival:

  1. Main Rank: All Taxi’s should enter via Stables Drive Entrance off Smithfield Road
  2. Riverbank Rank: Access to the Riverbank Rank will be via a one-way road from Smithfield Road at Riverbank Entrance (Lynches Bridge)
  3. Hill Gate Rank: Access to the Hill Gate Rank is from Leonard Crescent

All three Taxi Ranks operate for drop-off and pick-up and all are in close proximity to the three main entrances. Taxis are a very time effective way to leave the venue, the supply is constant, and you will not struggle to find a ride.

Rideshare

Drop-off for patrons choosing to arrive at Flemington by rideshare is available at all three main Entrances (The Main Gate, The Elms Gate and The Hill Gate).

Rideshare is a suitable option for drop-off only. All patrons should consider other transport options before choosing rideshare for their trip home.

The only designated rideshare pick-up zone will be located adjacent to The Nursery, near The Birdcage pedestrian overpass
