7 November 2024 Written by VRC

The Darley Champions Sprint, run over 1200 metres along Flemington’s iconic Straight Six, stands as the ultimate test for sprinters, showcasing speed and agility at its finest.

First run as the Hallmark Stakes in 1960 won by Karina, it became the Craven 'A' Stakes, and was better known in more recent years as the Darley Sprint Classic, VRC Sprint Classic, and Patinack Farm Classic.

Since its elevation to Group 1 in 1979, it has produced stars such as Planet Ruler (1989, 1990), Hareeba (1994), Takeover Target (2004), Miss Andretti (2007), Black Caviar (2010, 2011) and Nature Strip (2019, 2021).
